While I agree that Bush has seemed a bit underwhelmed by this whole thing, I'm not about to start pointing fingers at anyone. Even if there had been a more organized effort at the begining to help out, I'm not sure that it would have helped much. The infrastructure in the city and surrounding area was completely smashed so buses, supply trucks, etc. probably couldn't have arrived much sooner.
I think that the far bigger thing to watch is what happens now in terms of getting people to more long-term housing and cleaning up/re-building the city. Aside from the huge loss of human life, there is a great deal of potential for an enviornmental disaster here as well that should not be ignored.
"All these politicians all this week are saying, 'Well, you know what? This is not the time to point fingers; this is not the time to, y'know, quibble about things.' Well, y'know what? When is the time? Because I'm happy to write it down in my engagement book and make an appointment. Because, to me, the time is now, when the world is watching." --Anderson Cooper on `Real Time with Bill Maher'
